(C) 2004-2007 OneNightCinema
How long has this been going on?
After Madstone Theater’s closure in June 2004, OneNightCinema
was created by a local movie fanatic who wanted to continue to
bring unique films to the Valley.  With the support of the
management at Pollack Tempe Cinemas, this filmgoing
experience was formed and is privately funded. The first film
played in late July.  Dozens of ONC films have been shown on
Tempe Cinemas screens.
Where did you get these movies?
After careful consideration, each title is chosen. The criteria is
as follows: Each film to be shown had never been screened
theatrically in the Phoenix area, nor were they scheduled to play
at another location. For the most part,  each title has played
within the last year (or last few months) somewhere in the US,
most likely NY, LA or Chicago. At the time of screening, the movie
was not available on DVD. In fact, several of the films hit Tempe
before opening in major arthouses in NY or LA! Most of the films
shown are from studios that distribute independent films. Some
are being self-distributed by the filmmakers. Some of the films
shown are still not available on DVD!  A mix of foreign and
American independent films are chosen.
THE OneNightCinema STORY
What about the price?
Discount passes are sold for each series. These passes include lower ticket prices,
free bonus screenings and other perks. The $9.00 ticket price reflects the first-run
nature of these films. You’d be paying upwards of $10.00+ in LA, and up  to $11.00+ in
NY to see these titles!   We wanted to make it affordable, but enough to cover the
costs, staying within the average ticket price in Phoenix.
What about Tempe Cinemas?
Tempe Cinemas is a discount theater that shows top Hollywood films a
few weeks after their release. Normal ticket pricing is $3.00 and just $2.00
on Tuesday! They strive to make the theater festive with movie memorabilia
and more! In addition to their regular programming, they are host to several
film festivals, cultural film screenings, and of course… OneNightCinema.
Tempe Cinemas is a theater run by movie lovers for movie lovers! Make sure
to thank management on the way out for being host to this series and for
being onsite each week to make sure everything runs smoothly.
